The type of test, either restricted or direct access depends soley on your age. If you are under 21 years old you can only do the restricted test. If you are 21 or older you can choose to either do a restricted or direct access test.
Restricted tests are taken on a 125cc motorcycle and entitle you to ride upto a 25kW motorbike for two years then becoming unlimited after the time has elapsed.
Direct Access tests are taken on a 500cc motorcycle and have no limit to the bike power once passed.
The new tests comprises of two parts. Mod 1 is a ten to fifteen car park manoeuvres test. Only when you have passed this part will you be allowed to take Mod 2 the on road test which takes 45 minutes to an hour.
